The Forum is for:

  • Theatre-makers & artists aged 18+, based in, or from, the South West.
  • All artists and art forms are welcome – actors, writers, directors, producers, designers, stage managers and many more – you don’t need to have previously engaged with Ferment or Bristol Old Vic and you don’t need to make work in a theatre.
  • We actively encourage sign ups from groups and individuals who are under-represented in the artistic community (POC, D/deaf & Disabled).

Forum membership benefits:

Press nights

We’ll let artists know about upcoming press night dates and if you turn up we will add you to a waiting list for spare seats. If any are available just before the show starts we will get as many of you in as we can. Even if we can’t get you in, press nights are a great chance to meet  and chat to artists and professionals from far and wide.

Once a month we’ll send out a newsletter to Forum artists with all upcoming Ferment opportunities, plus other opportunities in our region and across the country. For more regular looks at everything going on in the SW, we recommend you subscribe to the Theatre Bristol Bulletin.

Skills list

You’ll have the option to add your details to a skills list we make available to other members. It’s a freely available database of artists in the Forum that you can add your details to – who you are, what you do and how best people can get in touch. We’d also suggest that you set up a profile on Theatre Bristol too.

Co-working days

Once a month we invite all Forum artists to join us at BOV to work together. It’s nothing more complex than that. The Ferment team will simply be working in one of our spaces and you're invited to come and work alongside us. At the end of the day, we’ll stick around in the bar for a Forum social.

Once a month we will provide a free workshop for Forum artists, to be booked first-come-first-served. Sometimes these workshops might be practical (e.g. managing finance as an artist), sometimes they might be practice-based (e.g. a high-profile artist sharing their method).

Ferment Fortnight and Ferment-Developed Productions

Forum artists will get access to a limited discount ticket rate on all Ferment performances across the year.

Rehearsal space

We will release unused rehearsal space in the building to Forum artists on a first-come-first-served basis. We will generally do this the week before a space is available.

And more

The Forum is driven by you – the artists who are a part of it. We want you to tell us what you need from the network. Have an idea? Click the button, join and let us know.

To join

  1. Register a BOV customer profile, if you don’t already have one. We will need the email address you register with to flag you in our system as a Forum member.
  2. Complete the sign-up form to let us know a few extra details about yourself, and then that’s it, you’re in!

Contact Us

You can invite us to your work by emailing us. We generally need as much notice as possible to make it along (4 to 6 weeks ideally). Unfortunately as a small team, we can’t get around to see everything, but we catch as much as we can. Our open calls will go out on Twitter (@BristolFerment), on our website and through the monthly Forum newsletter, so keep an eye on all our channels.
