About the term
Solo Storytelling
Adult Company is back in person at Bristol Old Vic! Liz Felton (Adult Company co-founder) returns with her playful devising techniques to run the Autumn term. She will be exploring solo storytelling with the company; helping participants to find their own stories and develop inventive ways in which to share them.
Session | Content |

Week 1 | The Accidental Story – A warmup session that explores the story of our names and how a story can be found through our movements. |
Week 2 | The Small Story – The seemingly insignificant things which happen to us every day and can be explored through our physicality and also with words |
Week 3 | Ancestral Stories – An exploration of the stories of our parents and grandparents. |
Week 4 | Memorable Moments – Finding true stories linked to themes such as love, food, travel, animals. Sharing with some use of object animation. |
Week 5 | Storyboarding – An exploration of how to visually record your story and make choices regarding structure. |
Week 6 | Multiple Characters – Becoming the differing voices in our tales. A physical and vocal exploration of character switching. |
Week 7 | Music, Costume & Props – The external choices we can make to help bring our moments to life. |

Director: Liz Felton
Liz Felton is a Theatre Director, Drama Facilitator and Storyteller working in Bristol and the South West. She is a Visiting Tutor at Bristol Old Vic Theatre School specialising in devised theatre and self-stories. Liz is Artistic Director of The Story Cellar and works in schools and community venues to help groups of all ages find stories and tell them in interesting ways.
