1970s refurbishment
Circa: 1970
1970 saw the beginning of the controversial Peter Moro renovations, which involved converting Coopers' Hall into a foyer and the creation of the New Vic Studio. The first performance following the renovations was Trelawny, on 12 January 1972.
The original stage was altered and the 19th century machinery moved to make space for larger scenery. The theatre’s acoustics were damaged, but restored during the 2012 refurbishment.
