Bristol Old Vic Reopening Fund

COVID19 has delivered a hammer blow to businesses in every sector of the economy.

We’re used to having to fight for our funding in the arts, but this time we are in the same boat as tens of thousands of businesses from Penzance to Pitlochry. On 17 March, 75% of our income disappeared and we’re clinging to the lifeline of the Job Retention Scheme to keep our heads above water, until lockdown eases and we can all once more walk the streets and go freely to and from work.

But reopening a theatre is not as straightforward as you might think. It takes time to cast, rehearse and promote shows, and our income will not simply leap back to its buoyant 2019 levels at a stroke.

Bristol and the South West deserves brilliant live theatre, pioneering programmes for young people and our community and ambitious talent development schemes. But we are going to need help to achieve it.

So we are launching a campaign to reopen the theatre and we would love your help. Every pound you give will go directly into making shows and employing the artists who work with us to make them.

We can’t yet tell you exactly when that reopening will be, but we know that we will only achieve it the same way that this beautiful theatre has achieved everything else worthwhile throughout its extraordinary 254 year history – in partnership and with the support of the people who love it most.

This theatre is only here, and can only survive, because of the support you give it.

Thank you for reading this and considering our request.
