The Crucible
Dated: 9 November 1954
Arthur Miller’s The Crucible made its British debut here in November 1954, but Bristol Old Vic veteran Andrew Stocker suggests this isn’t our only link to the famous playwright.
Actor Daniel Day-Lewis trained at Bristol Old Vic Theatre School from 1975-78 and went on to play the lead in the film version of The Crucible. During filming he met Arthur Miller’s daughter, Rebecca, whom Daniel married in 1996. The Theatre also celebrated Arthur Miller’s 75th birthday with a performance of his play The Man Who Had All the Luck, which involved driving a 1954 Cadillac onstage.
