Bristol and Region Archaeological Services

17 Aug 2011

Our archaeologist, Cai Mason, has been blogging for Bristol and Region Archaeological Services on the discoveries made during our refurbishment. Read his first blog from April 2011 here, and a further blog on the discovery of an 18th Century door here, which allowed rich patrons to pass from boxes to the backstage area. "This allowed rich men to meet the performers, or more specifically the actresses, in private. Prostitutes are also known to have worked in 18th-century theatres, though the line between actress and prostitute was, at least in the minds of their contemporaries, somewhat blurred." We also recently interviewed Cai, and he shared some of the artefacts discovered in the works.  Here's the video: http://vimeo.com/27775636 Interview with Cai Mason from Bristol Old Vic on Vimeo.
