We're very lucky this winter to have the timeless story The Snowy Day take over the Studio theatre for Christmas.

A Polka theatre and Can't Sit Still co-production, it also marks a return to BOV for director Catherine Boot.We had a quick chat with her to get the low-down on what our tiniest audiences can expect this year...

It's incredibly special to be bringing The Snowy Day to Bristol Old Vic for the first time.

I first worked at Bristol Old Vic four years ago as Assistant Director on The Nutcracker, so returning this Christmas with a show I've directed feels like a lovely full-circle moment.

Now in its third year, The Snowy Day continues to bring Ezra Jack Keats’ beautiful, award-winning picture book to life for a new generation of children.

The story is timeless - it’s a celebration of childhood curiosity and discovery.

Keats reflected a world where children from different backgrounds could recognise themselves in his books.

We believe every child deserves to experience the joy of being at the heart of a story. That kind of representation matters, from the very earliest age.

What makes The Snowy Day so special?

Maybe it's the crunch of fresh snow underfoot. Maybe it's Peter’s sense of wonder.

Or maybe it's the reminder that the most memorable adventures often begin on the most ordinary days.

Created in partnership with the team at Polka Theatre and with the support of the Ezra Jack Keats Foundation, our adaptation invites the youngest audiences to step into Peter’s snowy world.

Through dance, movement and a little bit of theatrical magic, we hope to capture that feeling of being small in a big world, where even the most ordinary day can become an extraordinary adventure.

It’s a real joy to be sharing this show with Bristol families this Christmas!
