Henry, Louis and Alessandro all have two things in common - they are members of the Bristol Old Vic Young Company, and are playing Seryozha in our upcoming production of Anna Karenina

We spoke to them to find out more - from how they are finding the process to which actor they'd like to play them in a movie!

Louis Fox (age 10)

Hi Louis! When did you first start acting?

When I started at Bristol old Vic Young company, I was in year 3, about 8 years old.

If someone was thinking about joining Young Company – what would you say to them?

It’s a great opportunity to meet people, it’s fun and we play games.  it’s great for someone who wants to try out acting.

What else do you do in your spare time?

I read books, draw, play computer games trampoline and sing.

What is your favourite thing about being in Anna Karenina?

It’s a great opportunity to act and is inspiring to be in someone else’s shoes and brain.

Anything surprising about rehearsals you could tell us?

The rehearsals are fun, we practice and run through the blocking and have a great time

If you could have any actor play you in a movie, who would that be?

I really like animated movies, I think hiccup from how to train a dragon would be great at playing me!

Alessandro Malavolti (age 12)

When did you first start acting?

I started 2 years ago when I did a children’s opera called Brundibar. I was a policeman and had a nice solo but it was pretty tense!

If someone was thinking about joining Young Company – what would you say to them?

I think you should throw yourself in- it’s a great place to meet new people who have the same passion as you and maybe discover if you have that passion for acting too – and even if you don’t it’s a good way to get into a new hobby and have some fun.

What else do you do in your spare time?

I mainly do piano and find that relaxing and fun which is why I do it. I also do basketball in my garden to get some fresh air, or I hop on a call with my friends and chat and see how they’re doing.

What is your favourite thing about being in Anna Karenina?

I’m playing a young boy who is Anna’s son. The most fun so far is the rehearsals because the directors we have are really nice and let us play games as a warm up.

Anything surprising about rehearsals you could tell us?

How much we do in a really little amount of time! We’re in for 2 hours once a week and get through so much.

If you could have any actor play you in a movie, who would that be?

Tom Hanks – he is really diverse and could play a child and he’s really funny and I’d love to see him playing me - I loved him in Forest Gump!

Henry Orchard (age 11)

When did you first start acting?

When I was in pre school, I have always enjoyed performing and joined my first drama group when I was 6.

If someone was thinking about joining Young Company – what would you say to them?

It’s a lovely learning experience and brilliant for acting tips and making great friends.

What else do you do in your spare time?

I love singing and bouldering! I also like playing football with my friends and travelling.

What is your favourite thing about being in Anna Karenina?

I think it’s brilliant experience and lovely getting to know the actors involved and feeling like I am part of my first proper production.

Anything surprising about rehearsals you could tell us?

I did an opera with Alessandro last year and it’s been a great surprise to be working with him again. Also it’s great how much one on one time we get.
