Subhash Viman Gorgania
Subhash entered the realm of dance at the age of 23 after experiencing a severe racist attack. Through dance, he learnt and developed a new and communicative vocabulary. This permitted him to converse and connect his ideas with and through the use of his body, the space around him as well as through an exploration of his imaginative and creative skills.
He shifts between Indian classical, urban and contemporary dance, combining seamless movement with a dose of provocative humour, giving his work an unorthodox and quirky edge.
In 2018, Subhash danced in the award-winning piece The Troth – Usne Kaha Tha, produced by Akademi and choreographed by Gary Clarke, which toured nationally and internationally, winning the Herald Angel Award from the Edinburgh Fringe. Subhash performed in the opera Sukanya, directed by Sub Das at the South Bank 2020.
In 2021, he took the role of Romeo in Romeo & Juliet by Rosie Kay Dance Company at the Birmingham Hippodrome. His new exhibition is touring the UK throughout 2023 which includes, 3d sculptures, animation and illustration.
