Vivienne Faull

Vivienne Faull has been Bishop of Bristol, a diocese which covers the county which used to be Avon, since 2018. The diocese exists because the city of Bristol did not want to be outdone when the Diocese of Gloucester was created in the sixteenth century.

Viv was previously a cathedral Dean first in Leicester (from 2000) where she was a Board member of Curve, Leicester’s new-build theatre and then York (from 2012). The body of Richard III was found next to Leicester cathedral just before she moved north (which thought Richard belonged there). In York she oversaw the completion of the restoration of the Great East Window, one of the triumphs of European Mediaeval art, created in a time of plague and depicting the beginning and end of all things. In both cathedrals Viv gave priority to choral worship, was in the audience for the Messiah most years and occasionally sang in choirs herself.
