Welcome to Thebes, a ping-pong parlour presided over by Zeus, king of the gods. In here, only the best, the strongest and the bravest can win, and Zeus won’t be pleased if you don’t show willing. Zeus’ young son, Hercules, has a lot to live up to, but is he strong enough to be the best and fight his inner demons?
In collaboration with our wildly inventive Young Company (T***k you), Made in Bristol alumni The Wardrobe Ensemble (Education, Education, Education) return to Bristol Old Vic to bring the Hercules myth bang up to date, scrutinising what it means to be strong in today’s society.
This brand new, devised show will be a rollicking, elegiac study of how our young men are raised and the pressures of masculinity.
Sam Thorp is our interpreter for the Signed performances on Sat 12 Jan at 2:30pm.

E took me to @BristolOldVic to see Hercules performed by @BristolOldVicYC for my birthday tonight. Outstanding performances from everyone - we laughed like drains and I leaked a lot of tears at Ty's heartfelt declaration. You've got 2 more nights - go see it.— Suzy Scavenger (@suzyscavenger) January 9, 2019
Really impressed with #Hercules@BristolOldVic tonight - snappy, inventive and completely unpretentious. Such a playful and important take on a classic, with lots to say about the shackles of gendered scripts and how we might overcome them today - go see!— Nick Havergal (@NickHavergal) January 9, 2019
