Heritage Launch
For the first time in the history of this magical theatre, Bristol Old Vic will be opening up its archives and delving headfirst into its 250 years of heritage.
Focusing on key events from the history of the building, a host of famous faces, and the most exciting performances; our Heritage Lottery Funded project launches with a bang on 10 Nov. A weekend full of excitement and historic exploration awaits as we reveal the Heritage installations and interactive exhibitions we have been crafting.
Join us to see our new Heritage interpretations including:
- King Street: From Marsh to Metropolis - Artistic timelines of Bristol Old Vic and King Street
- Noises Off: 250 Years of Sound Technology in Theatre
- A Window to the Past - Our Augmented Reality Foyer Experience
- An Audience With the Past - Artistically designed walls of historic playbills and posters
- A Touch of History - Our Digital Archive Interface
If you visit in the evening, you will also be able to see our wonderful mapped projection created by Aardman Animations and Limbic Cinema, The House is Open. This animation explores and charts the architectural changes to the building by projecting onto parts of the original 1766 wall of the theatre, uncovered for the first time as part of our redevelopment.
Limelight tours will also be happening throughout the weekend; a chance to meet some of the famous figures from the theatre’s history face-to-face! Created by our talented Made in Bristol company, Limelight tours take place in a variety of different locations you wouldn’t usually have access to in the building with some ghostly encounters.
