11 – 11.30AM: TALK 1

Bristol Old Vic’s Executive Producer, Chloe Naldrett Elwood, talks productions & programming.

Chloe Naldrett Elwood is at the beating heart of Bristol Old Vic’s programme and our fantastic Bristol Old Vic productions. Chloe works closely with our Artistic Director Tom Morris to ensure our productions are realised to the highest possible standard. She is responsible for pulling incredible talent into Bristol and taking our hit shows to wider audiences nationally and internationally.

Under Chloe’s management, we have seen our productions land in the West End and Broadway, and also secured the deals that brought movie stars Lesley Manville and Jeremy Irons to our stage in 2016. Discover more about this as Chloe talks productions & programming, as well as revealing some of our confirmed highlights for 2020.

11.30 – 11.45AM: BREAK

A rest break with tea and coffee (included in the ticket price).

11.45AM – 1PM: WRITING WORKSHOP

An Introduction to Playwriting Workshop with writer Matt Grinter

In this workshop, you’ll learn more about writing for stage and get to experiment with the process with Matt Grinter, a theatre practitioner and favourite of Bristol Old Vic. This is your opportunity to try something different (with no pressure to perform) and bring to light your inner writer.

Matt Grinter has worked as a Writer/Director in both Film and Theatre. His work has appeared in a number of prestigious venues across Britain and beyond, as well as winning the Papa Tango New Writing Competition with his play Orca. Matt’s second play The Dog and the Elephant recently ran at Bristol Old Vic’s Studio and Vault Fest and was produced in conjunction with Ferment. Matt is currently one of the Open Session Writers on attachment at Bristol Old Vic.

1PM: LUNCH

Guests are invited to make their own arrangements for lunch. We can make reservations for you in 1766 Bar & Kitchen should you wish.

1.50 – 2.30PM: TALK 2

Bristol Old Vic’s Engagement Director, Lucy Hunt, talks about the impact of our work on the younger generations in Bristol and surrounding communities.

Lucy Hunt is the Director of our Engagement programme. This includes our Young Company (one of the largest youth theatres in the UK), Made in Bristol (which brings together a new group of young people aged 18-25 who become resident artists at Bristol Old Vic for two days a week each year), and our work with Communities and Schools.

Lucy and her team provide young people with opportunities when, often, they don’t believe there are any. She’ll be talking through how the work we do makes a difference, with case studies, examples and may even bring some of our talented young people to show you what they can do.

2.45PM: TECHNICAL REHEARSAL

This autumn, Tom Morris’ Cyrano will premiere in our very own Theatre. You are invited to sit at the back of the auditorium and watch them at work as the rehearsal room becomes the stage.

Please be reminded that the technical process may mean you'll witness the same scenes being reworked, and that the performance may be interrupted by creative or technical staff giving notes or making adjustments. Observe and enjoy the magic of making live theatre!

Please Note: You will be asked to remain quiet throughout this working technical rehearsal. Your view may be obscured by staff or equipment. Be aware that there may be cables and seats out of position, so do take care when moving in and out of the auditorium. The technical rehearsal schedule may change throughout the day and we’ll try our best to keep you updated with their timings. No photography or digital/film recording can be taken during this time. We also ask that you refrain from talking to the team working on the show. They are working to a very tight schedule, so do expect the tension to be high. They work tirelessly to deliver our shows on time, so we thank you for your understanding with this.

4PM: END

It’s perfectly fine to leave earlier than 4pm if you wish. Just quietly make your exit! An usher will help guide you.
