Tell Us A Story
A Creative Exploration of Arabian NightsThe Arabian Nights are an amalgamation of everyone who told them, heard them, translated them, watched them, interpreted them and learnt from them - for better or for worse…
From April – August 2024 a group comprising of young people, creative practitioners, and staff from Bristol Old Vic’s Heritage Team met regularly to explore the fascinating journey of Arabian Nights and its history on stage at Bristol Old Vic.
They delved into the Bristol Old Vic collections at Bristol Archives and the University of Bristol Theatre Collection, to look at productions of Arabian Nights from the early nineteenth century to the present day.
Their sessions included archive visits, animation workshops, lectures from academics and more. This culminated in a four-day intensive, to creatively interpret what they had learned. Tell us a Story is the exhibition they created.
Tell us a Story is part of a series of temporary exhibitions which share experiences and learning from our National Lottery Heritage Fund Project, Unscripted: A Performative History of Bristol, Bristolians and Bristol Theatre.
All our heritage work is made possible thanks to National Lottery players.
