IMPRESSIVE AND MOVING

Bristol 247

With a cast of over 100 people, Orpheus & Eurydice was the largest community production we’ve done in over 20 years and wow - what a sell-out hit! Nearly 2,000 people from across Bristol came to see the show over four performances in late August 2023. See what they thought of it:

So many people from different backgrounds, from different walks of life, have come together to create this show

A decade in the planning, Orpheus & Eurydice built on the success of past community productions at Bristol Old Vic which - once in a generation - have the space to go big...

Programme, 2001 production

In 2001, Bristol Old Vic told the story of the rise and fall of Bristol Docks with ACH Smith’s Up the Feeder, Down the 'Mouth and Back Again.

Set on Bristol’s harbourside, involving a core of professional actors, over 60 people from across the city, Young Company, trains, cranes and a 250ft ship, the show has entered Bristol legend.

Bristol Old Vic's Director of Engagement, Lucy Hunt sat down with Heather Williams, the Education Director in 2001, to find out why large-scale community shows like these matter, and why they have such a place in our hearts.
