How To Win Against History is raising the roof in the rehearsal room as the team channel all the best, biggest and brightest elements of Henry Paget's fabulous life.

As the show is taking shape, we pushed through the glitter, sequins and diamond-encrusted poodles(?) to bring you a sneak peek inside the room - thanks to Associate Director Lydia Cook...

Rehearsals for How to Win Against History are in full swing, and the room has been buzzing with creativity, laughter, and discovery. With the band now joining us, the music is sounding incredible – vibrant, energetic, and full of life. There’s a fantastic atmosphere as the team collaborates closely to revisit this already brilliant show with fresh eyes.

Our rehearsal days follow a steady rhythm: we begin with vocal work, learning new harmonies and refining the musical moments.

After lunch, we dive into movement and scene work, gradually weaving all the elements together. It’s been a joy watching the show take shape each day – piece by piece.

Working with director Lisa has been a true highlight. She fosters a space where everyone feels safe to explore, take risks, and really play. Lisa brings a sharp focus to the story, encouraging us to look beyond the humour and uncover the deeper truths of Henry’s journey, which brings even more power and clarity to the show’s comedy.

There’s something uniquely exciting about returning to a production that many in the room know so well. Rather than starting from scratch, we’re re-examining and reimagining – asking questions like, “What if we try it this way?” It’s been a thoughtful and energising process, with the original team embracing the challenge of seeing the material in new ways.

The cast often remarks on how much more grounded and clear the show feels this time around. With a spirit of generosity and collaboration at the heart of rehearsals, How to Win Against History is shaping up to be as sharp, hilarious, and moving as ever – and we can’t wait to share it with audiences soon.
