Bristol Old Vic opens voluntary leavers scheme to strengthen long-term resilience

Bristol Old Vic has opened a limited Voluntary Leavers Scheme as part of its work to protect the organisation’s future and continue serving artists, audiences and communities for the long term. 

Thanks to the significant work already undertaken to grow income since Covid and reduce operating costs, the savings Bristol Old Vic now needs to find from salaries has been minimised. It aims to reduce salary costs by approximately 5% across the organisation. 

Any process affecting colleagues is difficult, and this Voluntary Scheme is being approached with care, transparency and support, giving colleagues as much clarity as possible throughout. 

Like many organisations across the cultural sector, Bristol Old Vic continues to make work in a difficult financial climate. This step is intended to strengthen its long-term resilience while enabling the organisation to keep delivering ambitious theatre and engagement activity for Bristol and beyond. 

The immediate priority is the welfare of the team. Bristol Old Vic is focused on supporting colleagues directly while the process is ongoing, and the theatre continues to operate as normal, with a packed autumn programme of theatre and engagement activity across the city.
