City Conversation IIIMaking Change Real
At City Conversations I and II, in Easton and Withywood, we discussed Bristol’s reputation as a divided city. Now it’s time to talk about what actions we need to take to address racial inequality in Bristol and make lasting change. Four initial pledges have been drawn up, stemming from those first conversations in line with the Runnymede Trust report, Bristol A City Divided?.
- Create a Bristol Curriculum to tell Bristol’s history truthfully and without bias, and provide better educational outcomes
- Achieve better representation at board/governance level
- Tackle employment inequality to achieve better representation in the general workplace
- Find a way to commemorate the city’s relationship with the Transatlantic Slave Trade
At the third of our city-wide conversations, we will ask what is missing, how we turn these pledges into realistic action plans, who we need to persuade in order to make change happen, and what resources might be required.
These City Conversations are Bristol Old Vic, Bristol Post and Ujima Radio’s response to the 2017 Runnymede Trust report which stated that Bristol was the most segregated core city in the UK.
