Shades of our Lives
We’ll take you on a journey. You may identify yourself along the way. You may take comfort in the experiences portrayed. At the very least, you’ll be entertained.
Comprising inventive short pieces exploring topics such as identity, connection and belonging, Shades of our Lives examines issues familiar to us all. Presented in an witty eclectic style, Black Women Let Loose, a new Bristol-based company, will put expression from black women on the map on a day we celebrate all women: International Women's Day.
Shades of Our Lives is devised and performed by Rachel de Garang (Tribe of Doris), Ruth Pitter, Valerie Mower and Lorna Henry (Breathing Fire), Yoma Smith (Black Women Let Loose), Christelle Pellecuer (African Queens CIC) and Sisanda Myataza Kowalski (Mankala).
Lorna says: “We wanted to celebrate International Women’s Day in a way that honoured our individual and collective stories as black women; stories that are sometimes raw, sometimes funny but always honest. The creative process has been moving and exciting.”
All proceeds from the performance will be donated to Bristol Black Carers – a charity which provides essential services for carers in the city.
