How do we get the productions we imagine in our heads onto a stage, in a way that makes sense with audiences?
This half-day workshop will be a friendly, discursive and practical session exploring ways to shape and articulate concepts for a production, and then how we bring different creative teams together to go from concept to actually making the show.
All directors welcome, but the workshop is particularly geared towards directors who have not trained at drama school, and who may not have had much support to explore how they develop concepts or work with creative teams.
Tanuja Amarasuriya is a director and dramaturg based in Bristol, and winner of the RTST Sir Peter Hall Director Award. She is the director of DELAY (Bristol Old Vic, 19 June – 5 July) and a new production of PRIVATE LIVES, which tours nationally (including to Bristol Old Vic) in autumn 2025.
Preparation for participants:
Come with a play or a project in mind. It doesn’t have to be something you’ve spent ages thinking about – it just needs to be something that you’re up for spending these few hours working on.
We’ll be doing some individual work on these projects so you may want to bring a notebook or laptop. We’ll see if we can get some pens and post-its in the room.
If you have any access needs or questions, please contact Amanda Fawcett.
Please note this workshop will be taking place at Waterside 1, The Watershed, BS1 5TX
