Toby Jones is stuck on an imaginary island. He’s taken seven pieces of theatre with him, and he wants to explain why.
The first guest in our new series called Desert Island Theatre, Toby Jones (Uncle Vanya, Captain America, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy), in conversation with long-term collaborator and friend Tom Morris (War Horse, The Grinning Man) recalls, and attempts to recreate, seven moments of theatre which have had a profound effect on him and his career.
One of acting’s greatest talents, Toby Jones has played everything from Dobby the House Elf in the Harry Potter series to Truman Capote, and starred as Lance in three series of the hit BBC comedy The Detectorists. He memorably appeared as the Christ-figure in Bristol Old Vic’s Messiah. Recorded in front of a live audience, this funny, moving and unpredictable film showcases the sheer joy that theatre can bring, both on the stage and in the stalls.
