We’re taking over our home theatre, Bristol Old Vic, with a programme of art, workshops and theatre!
We are Firebird Theatre. We are a family of actors who work as a team and use our voices.
We are doing a Takeover of the Bristol Old Vic, and we are going to share:
- Artwork - A brand new artwork about Firebird’s History called “The Story of Firebird”
- Workshops - Firebird members will be leading workshops for other people with Learning Disabilities and groups
- Performances - We’ll be sharing part of the new show we’re working on - a NEW version of The Tempest (and we’ll be joined by special guests)
We’re very excited to share our Firebird History, our Firebird Present and our Firebird Future and we’d love for you to come and join us!
About Firebird Theatre
Firebird Theatre is a Company of Learning Disabled artists based in Bristol. The company is supported by Bristol Old Vic.
Firebird Theatre work as an ensemble. We are experienced, Learning Disabled performers/actors with a consistent track record and history of making plays and performances together for over thirty years. We used to be called the Portway Players but we changed our name to Firebird Theatre when we became an independent Company in 2005.

The Firebird Takeover Programme
Exhibition: The Story of FirebirdDates: 22 - 26 July We’ve worked with designer Ruby Pugh to create an installation about Firebird’s past, present and future.
The artwork will be in a public space at Bristol Old Vic to enjoy all week, for FREE.
WorkshopsDates: 23, 24, 25 July
Workshops are lead by Firebird actors for people with Learning Disabilities

Theatre Performances with Special Guests Dates: 25* & 26 July
We’ll be sharing part of our new show, to test in front of audiences and get your feedback! We’ll be joined by special guests who will do a short performance too.
