Kathleen Barker

Theatre historian and author Kathleen Barker died in 1991, leaving behind a wealth of research into theatre and entertainment in Bristol. 

Her meticulous notes for her publications, transcriptions of theatre playbills and Proprietors’ Committee Minutes, and audience reviews of Theatre productions are all available to view at the Theatre Collection. 

We’re indebted to her work, without which unearthing the history of the Theatre and deciphering 18th-century handwriting would have been significantly more challenging task.
