An absolute triumph
The Scotsman on Chotto Desh
How does war begin? And how does it end? It depends on who is telling the story.
In 2015, Akram Khan Company decided to do an experiment. They re-imagined Akram Khan’s adult, solo piece DESH for a younger audience. The resulting production, Chotto Desh, was a huge success, offering thousands of children a taste of the delights of Akram’s choreography.
Sue Buckmaster, Artistic Director of Theatre-Rites, was the creator. She now returns to reimagine Akram Khan’s award-winning final full-length solo XENOS into another captivating family production. Chotto Xenos takes young audiences back in time, exploring the often forgotten and untold stories of World War 1 colonial soldiers, in order to shine light on our present and future.
Chotto Xenos is for anyone over the age of 8.
Presented by Akram Khan Company
Chotto Xenos and XENOS are both commissioned by 14-18 NOW: WW1 Centenary Art Commissions, supported by the National Lottery Heritage Fund, Arts Council England, and the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport
