The Big Give Arts for Impact campaign is a week-long event that takes place every year to help charities (like us!) raise money. For every donation we receive during the challenge week, The Big Give will double it at no extra cost.

At Bristol Old Vic, we believe culture has a vital role to play in society. For our Big Give campaign this year, we are raising money for a project that aims to tackle the inequality of access to creative opportunities in Bristol.

Made In Bristol 260 (MIB260) is a free training programme for young theatre makers (18-25) in Bristol. Participants become resident at Bristol Old Vic for a year, training in performance, production, and technical skills while creating and touring 2 new plays to secondary schools across Bristol.

Why are projects like this important? 

MIB260 enables us to bring two high-quality plays that are engaging, entertaining and relevant to secondary school students directly into schools, performed by an ensemble who have taken up residence at BOV for a year to train in performance, and technical theatre skills. The tour will show professional-level theatre to secondary school students who otherwise haven’t experienced live theatre, expanding their cultural horizons and introducing new ideas.

THE IMPACT OF MIB260

The tour will introduce live theatre to thousands of young people - many of whom face financial or social barriers to accessing the arts, helping to close the opportunity gap.

The tour will contribute directly to tackling inequality by ensuring cultural experiences reach the young people least able to access them.

Through the performances and workshops, students will encounter new ideas and perspectives and explore the themes of each play in a safe, supportive, and creative environment.
