Technical Youth Theatre

Bristol Old Vic is delighted to be offering a 7-month long Technical Youth Theatre for 14–18-year-olds. This free programme will run every Monday evening from 6:30-8:30pm starting Monday 12th January. There will also be some optional extra sessions during evenings and school holidays, and you are welcome to attend as many or as few of these as works for you. 

Aims and outcomes for Technical Youth Theatre 2026

  • Develop a strong understanding of the different careers and areas within technical theatre.
  • Create a portfolio to demonstrate your learning of different areas of backstage theatre.
  • Gain practical, hands-on experience that can be added to a CV and help clarify each technical role.
  • Build an understanding of how the tech team at Bristol Old Vic operates in a professional setting.
  • Be able to work effectively as part of a team.

How to apply

Please complete an Application form or video application before the deadline. The application form will not save until you submit it, so we recommend completing your application in a separate document first and then pasting it into the application form to submit.

The deadline for applications is Friday 19th December 2025, 5pm.

Please note that we will only accept applications from young people between the ages 14-18 and will prioritise applicants who are from the global majority, are young women, trans, non-binary folk, and young people from working class backgrounds who would otherwise not have access to the arts.

Mon 12th Jan: TYT term 1 starts

Mon 16th Feb: Half term (no evening session, potential extra session)

Mon 30th March: TYT term 1 last session

Tues 1st Apr- Sat 5th Apr: Easter Holidays (no evening session, potential extra sessions)

Term 2

Mon 20th Apr: TYT term 2 starts

Mon 4th May: Bank Holiday (no session)

Mon 26th May: Half Term (no evening session, potential extra sessions)

Mon 6th July: TYT term 2 last session
