Young Company Summer School 2025
Young Company Summer School is returning to Bristol Old Vic!
Places for both 7-10 and 11-14 year olds sessions will be available to book from Wed 16 Apr at 10am.
This summer, both Young Company Summer Schools will become folktale foragers — exploring the wild edges of towns and the secret heart of the countryside to uncover forgotten tales and invent new ones.
Inspired by the book Lanny by Max Porter, we’ll explore the stories rooted in the places we live, and how they can help us see nature in new ways. What magic might be buried in our own back gardens? What can the past tell us if we learn how to listen?
11–14 year olds
Dates: Monday 28th July to Friday 1st August
Price: £225 per participant (incl. limited number of bursary places)
Times: 10am – 4pm every day Venue: Bristol Old Vic
Working as storytellers, performers, set designers, and sound artists, we’ll bring these tales to life using a range of creative forms: from shadow play to song, spoken word to physical theatre.
Together, we’ll dig up old magic and invent new myths, creating an original performance to share with friends and family at the end of our week.
7–10 year olds
Dates: Monday 4th to Friday 8th August
Price: £200 per participant (incl. limited number of bursary places)
Times: 10am – 3pm every day Venue: Bristol Old Vic
Through games, performance, music, and movement, we’ll bring our own myths and legends to life. We’ll build sets, make sounds, and step into the shoes of magical beings and curious creatures.
By the end of the week, we’ll be ready to share an original performance with our friends and family.
How to Book
- Young Company Summer School places are first come, first served.
- If you are booking for someone other than yourself online, please ensure you book under the participant’s name, not your own.
- When making your booking, if you are booking in multiple participants, you must book in each one as separate bookings. If you have a sibling attending another session, you can select the 'sibling discount' price.
- If sessions fully sell out, please contact the Engagement team to be added to the waiting list for that session.
Bursaries
We have a limited number of bursary grants that are available in cases of genuine hardship for anyone who will struggle to pay Young Company Summer School fees. Bursaries should be applied for when booking opens on Wednesday 16th April at 10am and bursary applications close on Wednesday 18th June.
In order to allocate bursary places as fairly as possible we will initially prioritise applicants who are in receipt of free school meals, please note that we will contact your school to confirm this information. Please visit the Fees & Bursaries page to download a bursary application form.
Applying for a bursary means we automatically reserve you a space for Young Company Summer School, so you do not need to make a paid booking in addition to your bursary application, and you will have the option to buy your reserved place if your bursary application is not successful.
